One Zen Advice to Any Problem

I once concluded that there’s no problem in life to which “let it go” would not be a feasible solution. Some issues are harder to let go of and some are easier, but gradual acceptance is the best approach to any situation we cannot change.

Basically, I would brake it down like this: Can you solve the problem by changing something in your life? If yes, go do it, and if no then let it go. There’s nothing better you can do anyway, right?

In my experience, most of our anxieties and worries come from issues we do not have control over. That is exactly why we stress so much over them - because they are out of our control.

A large part of Zen is about acceptance and letting go of the things we cannot change. That is supposed to be the source of our inner peace - acceptance.

For me, letting go turned my life around. It guided me from a life of panic and anxiety to a life of peace and serenity. Now that I’ve let go of all the things I worried over so desperately, I have so much more space in my life to concentrate my attention on the things that really matter, like kindness, compassion and simplicity.

Worrying never really served me, but when we worry, we feel safe. Thinking about our problems over and over again gives us a sense of security, which is of course false, but it’s at lease something we can hold onto, and that gives us the feeling of “at least doing something.” Read more»
